How to Drive an Insane Amount of Traffic to Your Website in Just a Few Hours
This Doesn’t Require Buying An Elaborate Marketing eBook either. In an effort to drive traffic to a particular website page, I searched the internet for ways to accomplish this. Unfortunately, everything I found was either an eBook someone was trying to sell me or it was something that would require hours of work and several months of optimization. So after taking some information that I had gained from a previous project, here is what I discovered.
I recently built and iPhone app with a friend called “Diaper Checker”. You can search the blog for more information about it. We debated and debated on whether we wanted to make this a free app or a paid app. After some research and deliberation, we decided to make it a paid app. What I discovered researching monetizing a free app is where I theorized a website traffic generator.
I joined an advertisement site called adMob. If you are not familiar with it, it is simply a site that serves ads on websites and applications much like Adsense. It also let’s you buy advertisements to be displayed on other sites and phone applications, like Google Adwords. Joining this site would be the foundation of driving lots of traffic to a particular website.
If you didn’t know
Smart-phones are taking over the cell phone industry, in fact, they are taking over the computer industry. There are more people with cell phones than there are people with the internet. What does this mean? Smart-phones are the ticket to the next train of money-making endeavors.
Getting back to my theory, I thought to myself, “if I can put an advertisement on an application used by cell phones, I could generate a lot of traffic to a particular site”. Interesting thought, right? You may be saying, “it would cost hundreds of dollars to put advertisements on cell phones”. Well no, it doesn’t. In fact, you can set it up so that you only pay if the advertisement is clicked on, and at a very low cost per click.
I added $50 to my adMob account and quickly created an advertisement banner using their online forms. I set my daily budget to $10. By the way, I only paid .02 per click through. After about 2 hours, I had hundreds of thousands of page impressions and hundreds of visitors to this particular site. Don’t believe me? Take a look at this Google Analytics screen shot. As you can see, this was a new site I had built just a couple weeks ago, getting zero traffic. Then…a huge spike. 317 visitors.
My theory worked…sort of…
In this particular test, I sent hundreds of people to a page hosted on my site that redirected them to an affiliate link. With the hundreds of people visiting my site (according to Google Analytics), I should have several sales right? Yeah…zero. I think the fact that people were redirected to a different site had a negative impact on my results. Nevertheless, I got traffic! At this point, I am contemplating some other options with driving people to a site with a cell phone. For instance, it should be a mobile friendly site. Also, if I plan to sell something from the site, it needs to be something that people will be comfortable buying from their cell phone. I will continue to play with this strategy and see how it goes.
Feel free to leave any thoughts on this strategy and maybe what you have done or would have done differently.
